Affordability is key

when deciding to continue your higher education
One way to maximize your financial aid opportunities is by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is an important tool that can help you throughout your time at OSU. Don't miss out on what it has to offer!

All things FAFSA

Who?

  • The answer is simple, you!
  • If you are an U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen and enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at OSU, you can file a FAFSA.
  • If you are a dependent student, you will need to also include your parents information. They are also part of the process.

What?

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the federal form that calculates your eligibility for financial aid. The FAFSA will be used by your school to determine if you qualify for grants, loans and student work study. Some scholarships may also require it such as Oklahoma's Promise.
  • Keep in mind, you have to file a FAFSA every year, not just your freshmen year.
  • Make sure to add OSU's school code: 003170

When?

  • You can apply now for this school year! The earlier you file the FAFSA, the better. You don't want to wait until school is starting in August to fill it out. There are scholarships that require the FAFSA and may be awarded early. Some financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The  FAFSA form for next school year will be available in October of the current school year.

Where?

  • The FAFSA can be completed at studentaid.gov.
  • If you have filed one before, a lot of your information will still be there. Make sure to double check the details and add in your updated tax information. Don't forget to have your parent sign it electronically if their information was included.
  • If before, during or after filing the FAFSA, you have questions, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is here to help. You might have questions about who to report as parents on the form, what are these documents we have requested on your portal or just want to know if the FAFSA has been received.  Do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email. If you are passing through the Union, stop by and see us on the first floor, 119.

Why?

  • Why not?
  • Filing the FAFSA isn't just about being offered student loans. You can also be considered for grants and federal work study if you have the financial need. If your family income has changed this is another good reason to file a FAFSA if you haven't in the past. You might qualify for more than you thought.
  • At OSU, we want to see you walk across the graduation stage. Filing the FAFSA every year could help to fund your education and get you across that stage, so file away.
