OSU holds inaugural Phi Beta Kappa induction ceremony

OSU President Burns Hargis and other campus leaders participated in the inaugural installation ceremony for the OSU chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The installation of charter members for the Gamma of Oklahoma Chapter was held in the historic Old Central Assembly Hall. The Phi Beta Kappa Society was founded in 1776 and is the oldest and most distinguished academic honorary society in America. It recognizes excellence on the part of students with a first or second major in a liberal arts discipline.
Burns Hargis visits with legendary television journalist Tom Brokaw on Inside OSU

Television journalist Tom Brokaw spoke in Tulsa and Oklahoma City as part of the OSU Spears School of Business speaker series. OSU President Burns Hargis interviewed the legendary newsman for an episode of Inside OSU. Brokaw spent his entire distinguished journalism career with NBC News, joining in 1966. He is the only person to host all three major NBC News programs, including the Today Show, NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press. Brokaw has won every major award in his craft.
OSU celebrates completion of new Mathematics Learning Success Center

OSU President Burns Hargis joined a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the completion of OSU’s new state-of-the-art Mathematics Learning Success Center. The center is available to all students in lower-level mathematics courses looking for resources outside the classroom. “It is significant that success is part of the title of this center,” said Hargis. “That is what all of us are working toward, creating opportunities so our students can succeed at OSU and beyond.”
Oklahoma State University surpasses $1 billion in fundraising campaign

Five years after launching its $1 billion Branding Success fundraising campaign to support students, faculty, programs and facilities, OSU held an event on the north plaza of the Student Union to announce the goal was surpassed nearly two years ahead of schedule. President Burns Hargis said the campaign would continue through its scheduled completion date of Dec. 31, 2014. As of April 1, more than 85,000 donors had participated. “We began the campaign not long before the nation’s economy collapsed, but the incredible generosity of our supporters kept us moving forward,” said Hargis.
Oklahoma State captures national dining services and nutrition honors

University Dining Services at Oklahoma State University received two national 2013 Nutrition Awards from the National Association of College & University Food Services. OSU won gold for “Understanding Healthy Dining” in the Most Innovative Wellness & Nutrition Program category. The OSU program addresses poor eating habits that lead to weight gain and possible obesity for college students. Dining Services tied for the silver award in the Best Local Foods Recipe category.
OSU sets royalty record

For the first time, annual royalties at Oklahoma State University topped $2 million in fiscal year 2012. The royalties are generated by the use of university-developed technologies that are licensed to start-up or existing companies. The milestone is a clear indication that OSU is fulfilling its land-grant mission by providing technologies of vital need to Oklahoma and beyond. Topping the list of royalty-generators is a probiotic administered to the nation’s dairy and feedlot cattle.
State, local and OSU officials inaugurate new KOSU OKC Film Row studio

Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and OSU President Burns Hargis headlined a “flip the switch” ceremony to mark the beginning of live broadcasts from the new KOSU studio in downtown Oklahoma City’s historic Film Row. The 4,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility is located in the newly-restored Hart Building and features new performance and production studios and an expanded and technically enhanced collaborative newsroom.
Burns and Ann Hargis receive Jasmine Award

The Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum honored Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis and his wife Ann with the Jasmine Award during a benefit banquet at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The Jasmine Award is presented once every two years to those who have given extraordinary service to the youth of Oklahoma.
OSU Student Union earns No. 1 Most Amazing ranking

Oklahoma State University’s historic Student Union, the vibrant hub of the beautiful OSU campus, was named the No. 1 Most Amazing Campus Student Union by BestCollegeReviews.org. Since opening on Aug. 20, 1950, the Student Union has undergone numerous renovations, always keeping student needs at the forefront of each upgrade. The 63-year-old Student Union recently completed a $65 million renovation that brought many upgrades to the already iconic building.
OSU shares large gift to engineering programs with two other universities

Three engineering programs at universities in Oklahoma and Kansas are the beneficiaries of a stock gift currently valued at more than $200 million. Officials of Oklahoma City-based Dolese Bros. Co. announced the successful supplier of ready-mix concrete donated much of the private company’s stock through each institution’s foundation. The OSU Foundation, University of Oklahoma Foundation and Kansas State University Foundation hold stock currently valued at roughly $70 million each.
