Cowboy football wins Fiesta Bowl thriller following historic season

Mike Gundy’s No. 3 Cowboys capped OSU’s first Big 12 Championship season with a thrilling 41-38 overtime victory over No. 4 Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona. Behind the record-breaking heroics of quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon, the Cowboys finished the 2011 season 12-1. OSU defeated the University of Oklahoma, 44-10, on Dec. 3, 2011 to clinch the conference title.
Betty Thompson earns first runner-up Miss America honors

Oklahoma State University student Betty Thompson earned first runner-up honors and a $25,000 scholarship at the Miss America Pageant. Thompson was selected as the top contestant in a Facebook and Miss America online fan poll. The elementary education senior placed first in the talent portion.
Oklahoma State University surpasses $20 million energy savings milestone

OSU has saved more than $20 million through its energy conservation efforts over the last five years. The university announced the savings milestone today during the OSU/A&M Board of Regents meeting in Ardmore. “As a publicly funded land-grant institution it is important Oklahoma State University do all that it can to save money,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “Because of these savings the university has been able to focus more dollars on academics and enhancing the student’s education experience.”
OSU welcomes largest freshman class in university, state history

Oklahoma State University announced historic enrollment for the 2012-13 academic year, highlighted by a freshman class of 4,289 that was the largest in university and state history. Enrollment for the combined OSU-Stillwater and OSU-Tulsa campuses totaled a record 25,554 and systemwide enrollment hit a record of more than 36,500.
Renovated Student Union celebrates with grand reopening

The Oklahoma State University Student Union celebrated its grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the north plaza. Students joined President Burns Hargis, members of the OSU/A&M Board of Regents and administrators to mark the occasion. The union underwent a $63 million renovation that created new indoor and outdoor spaces; totally revamped the theater, student study areas, dining options, and other areas; and upgraded wiring, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and elevators.
Oklahoma State University launches dynamic online video system, OStateTV

Oklahoma State University made it easier than ever to view video that showcases its events, people, expertise and spirit with the launch of OStateTV, a one-stop source for OSU video across all devices: personal computers, tablets and smartphones. “We're excited to launch OStateTV, a digital video network which will enable us to showcase our great work here at Oklahoma State and to fulfill our land-grant mission of instruction, research and outreach,” said OSU President Burns Hargis.
OSU School of Entrepreneurship programs receive top ranking from Princeton Review

For the second year in a row, OSU’s School of Entrepreneurship is one of only a handful to have both its undergraduate and graduate programs recognized as being among the best in the U.S., according to the Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. Though it only started in 2008, OSU’s program has quickly made a name for itself across the nation through its unique mix of the most comprehensive entrepreneurship curriculum in the country, cutting edge research and impactful outreach programs.
First Cowgirl honored with Light, Leadership and Legacy award

The Oklahoma Israel Exchange (OKIE) presented its 2012 Light, Leadership and Legacy Award to OSU First Cowgirl Ann Hargis. The award was a fitting acknowledgement of her ongoing efforts to spotlight and celebrate OSU programs and initiatives. “I am honored to be recognized and truly humbled,” Hargis said. “I have taken great pride in watching the relationship flourish between OSU and OKIE to provide unique educational experiences for faculty and students.”
Oklahoma State University holds TEDx event

Oklahoma State University alumni, faculty members, students and friends shared ideas worth spreading during the first-ever TEDxOStateU. The event, themed “IGNITE,” covered important topics we face today as a society, including issues related to sustainability, food production and problems faced by individuals in third-world countries. OSU alumnus Boone Pickens was the headline speaker at the event, which was streamed live on OState.TV.
OSU receives inaugural Higher Education Diversity award

Oklahoma State University received the first annual Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award, which honors U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. "We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to diversity and pleased to be among those who are leading the way in creating diverse and inclusive campuses," said OSU President Burns Hargis. As of fall 2017, the university had won the award every year since 2012.
