Hands-On Learning Opportunities
Under faculty supervision, education students provide tutoring services for 1-8 grade students in the community through the Randall and Carol White Reading and Mathematics Center. This hands-on learning experience helps our future teachers learn how to assess, identify, plan and implement individualized instruction.

Alignment with National Standards
The OSU elementary education program strives to meet both Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) Model Core Teaching Standards and CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation).
Micro-credentials
Elementary education students completing courses CIED 3293 (Teaching Reading in the Elementary School) and CIED 4233 (Literacy Assessment & Instruction) will earn the Science of Reading (SoR) micro-credential alongside their degree.
Badge holders will be trained in the Science of Reading (SoR), which is an Oklahoma State requirement for all teacher candidates, as well as current teachers in the field. (HB 362; Strong Readers Act). With this knowledge, badge holders will be able to utilize science-based literacy instruction in their own classrooms.
