Career paths

In the Elementary Education degree program, you'll find man career fields to choose from. Some careers listed below may require additional education:

#1OSU graduates more national board certified teachers

than any other institution in the state.

ExCEL Program

OSU collaborates with Stillwater Public Schools on the Excellence in Collaborative and Experiential Learning (ExCEL) Program, in which elementary education majors get an early start on their student teaching experience. The program features a 3-day per week, full-day placement in a public school classroom. Students are partnered with expert classroom teachers and return to campus for methods classes.

Randall and Carol White Reading and Mathematics Center Practicums

The reading and mathematics center provides space and resources for two on-campus tutoring courses, which are part of the preparation program for elementary education majors. The experience allows future teachers to develop and explore literacy and mathematics teaching methods with the support of university faculty. During the practicum, students assess, plan and implement weekly tutoring sessions for a K-8 student.

Student Teaching Abroad

Students have the opportunity to take their student teaching experience abroad, either to Costa Rica or Mexico. The goal of the 15-week international internship program is to expand the personal and professional experience of students and enrich their global perspective as teachers.

Preparing America's Brightest Educators

OSU Elementary Education Student

My time at OSU prepared me immensely to be successful in my job. My district's philosophies and priorities are very much aligned with the content of OSU's classes. I have a clear understanding of how I'm expected to teach. All the knowledge I've gained has allowed me to make significant contributions in class with my students and meetings with colleagues.
