What is recreation management and recreational therapy?
This major has two options. Recreation management is the coordination of leisure activities
in public and private settings. Recreational therapy is using prescribed leisure activities
for rehabilitation and health interventions.

program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Recreational Therapy Education,

Recreation is a growing field and a multi-billion dollar industry. This option prepares
students for careers in management and campus/outdoor recreation as well as the tourism,

Recreational Therapy Option
As the only program of its kind in Oklahoma, recreational therapy trains students
to plan, direct or coordinate treatment interventions for patients in hospitals, nursing
homes, rehabilitation centers or other health care settings. Interventions may include
exercise, interpersonal skill development, social skill development, drama, social
activities, arts and crafts and other developmental interventions. Students who graduate
from this accredited program are eligible to sit for the National Council for Therapeutic
Recreation Certification (CTRS) and apply for Medical Licensure in the State of Oklahoma.
