Finance is the management of money and includes activities such as investing, lending
and budgeting. In a corporate setting, finance functions include managing cash, evaluating
corporate investing and raising money. In banking, finance functions include helping
firms and households raise cash, as well as managing cash and investments. Finance
is also involved on a personal level through the management of wealth and investments
for individuals.

Finance majors at OSU have a multitude of opportunities at their disposal including
the Student Managed Investment Fund, Watson Trading Floor, Bloomberg terminals, S&P
Capital IQ, Securities Industry Essentials exam prep and Chartered Financial Analyst
exam prep. There are many networking opportunities with alumni through such activities
as the Financial Management Association Student Chapter and finance career day.

Student Managed Investment Fund
The Finance Department is home to the Student Managed Investment Fund, which offers
students the opportunity to gain real-world experience managing a portfolio of financial
assets with a value of approximately $1 million. Through coursework, students have the opportunity to apply financial theories and
models learned in class to the real world.
Through the Eastin Center, OSU supports students’ professional growth from awareness
to knowledge acquisition, practice and ultimately successful implementation.
