What is finance?

Finance focuses on financial decision making, corporate financial management, the markets, institutions, and instruments that facilitate the transfer of money and wealth, allocation of resources, and the risk and acquisition of financial capital.

Why finance at OSU?

Our Student Managed Investment Fund provides students real world opportunities in the investment and trading industries. Through the Watson Trading Floor, students can learn how to use Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ and even participate in training opportunities. The Finance Department also offers preparation for the Securities Industry Essentials Certification and Chartered Financial Analyst exam.

Student managed investment fund

The Finance Department is home to the Student Managed Investment Fund, which offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience managing a portfolio of financial assets with a value of approximately $1 million. Through coursework, students have the opportunity to apply financial theories and models learned in class to the real world.
