What is data analytics?

The Data Analytics degree focuses on developing important data engineering skills as well as gaining expertise in sophisticated data analytics approaches. Data engineering skills are fundamental for successful use of data analytics such as visualization tools, predictive and prescriptive analytic tools, machine learning and applied artificial intelligence, all of which are valuable in today’s datacentric business world.

Why data analytics?

Data Analytics positions appear as one of the top 5 most sought-after jobs in 2023-2024 and one of the fastest growing areas within STEM majors. The MSIS Department is an international leader in data analytics and data science education and research. The Department is also home to the Center of Data Analytics (CODA), which facilitates analytic-based education and research initiatives across campus.

Highlights

CODA and ConocoPhillips fund a unique Data Scholars Program for top students majoring in Data Analytics.  The CODA/ConocoPhillips Data Scholars Program includes professional development activities, industry mentoring, among the financial support of a significant scholarship. Student organizations

The Data Analytics Club (DAC), sponsored by CODA and ConocoPhillips, helps student members learn more about the data analytics field and provides them with extracurricular learning opportunities. An annual Datathon contest is held each Spring, sponsored by DAC, with winning teams earning OSU scholarships. 
 
Other organizations within the MSIS Department include Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), Information Security and Assurance Club (iSAC) and the Women in Technology (WIT) organization.
