What is computer science?

Develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills to transform questions into solutions using various programming languages and applications. From software engineering, computer security, networking and databases, and mobile apps, students are prepared to work in various areas of the computer industry to tackle the evolving world of computing.

Why computer science at OSU?

Students in OSU’s ABET accredited computer science (CS) program learn programming skills, mathematical proficiency, data structures and theoretical foundations. CS electives include applied skills such as computing security, video game development, artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering, cloud computing and mobile app development to provide industry-ready skills. With foundational knowledge, students have the ability to adjust in this ever-changing industry and to work in many diverse pathways such as military branches, banking and finance, transportation, energy, retail, medical and software development.

  • Software Programming Undergraduate Resource (SPUR) Center provides tutoring for undergraduate students.

  • The MAC lab offers students continuous, round-the-clock access to a well-equipped computer lab featuring the latest macOS software, ensuring they have the advanced tools and resources they need at any time of day or night for their academic projects.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for prospective freshmen, transfer students, current students and continuing students. When you complete the OSU admission application, you are automatically considered for the university level scholarships. Students are also eligible for college level scholarships within the College of Arts and Sciences after completing 12 hours at OSU. Some exceptions may apply. See specific scholarships for criteria. The Computer Science Department offers departmental level scholarships for eligible students.
