Overview
This program builds your knowledge of adult learner characteristics, including instructional strategies and curriculum design for adult learners.
Successful completion of the certificate program requires 12 credit hours (four courses) of graduate-level coursework. Credit hours are transferable to the following master's degree program:

Coursework
Courses are offered fully online as well as on the OSU Stillwater and Tulsa campuses, with many opportunities for peer-to-peer collaboration. Online courses are delivered through Canvas, OSU's online learning platform.
Required (nine credit hours):
- WAED 5013: Characteristics of Adult Learners
- WAED 5153: Curriculum Planning in Occupational Education
- WAED 5353: Instructional Strategies for Adults
Elective (three credit hours - select one of the following):
- WAED 5123: Evaluation of Occupational and Workforce Education
- WAED 5143: Organization and Administration of Adult Education Research
- WAED 5203: Foundations of Adult and Continuing Education
- WAED 5313: History, Principles and Organization of Workforce Education
Admissions Requirements and Deadlines
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified of admission status within four to six weeks of submission.
To apply for the program, submit the following:
- Graduate College application
- Transcripts from all previously attended institutions (undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a minimum 3.0 GPA required; applicants with a 2.5 to 3.0 GPA may be admitted on a probationary basis)
- Two letters of professional recommendation
- Academic vita/resume
- Professional goals statement
