What is art?

Art is dedicated to excellence in all forms of art creation, research and education. Art is an expression of thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, and an application of human creative skill and imagination. Art is also about sharing the way we experience the world.

Why art at OSU?

Learn and develop skills in a variety of areas and media from the experience of highly active faculty who execute art exhibitions nationally and internationally. The Gardiner Gallery of Art and the Oklahoma State Museum of Art in downtown Stillwater offer students opportunities to get hands-on experience as interns, docents and curators, as well as a place to showcase their own artwork.

Jordan Richards OSU Graphic Design student

"My time as a graphic design major has taught me to be more confident in myself, in my abilities, and persevering in the face of obstacles. Everybody struggles with something. I wish more than anything that I could tell my former self, ‘Breathe. It’s going to be ok.’ But as weird as it is, I’m thankful for the challenges I faced, and I think I’m the person I am today because of them.”

Dedicated facilities

Gardiner Gallery of Art exhibits student and faculty work as well as international and national artists.

OSU Museum of Art is a teaching museum in which educators can teach from the art collection and you can receive a first-hand look at real pieces of art related to their study, not just pictures of the art. It’s also a place where students are an integral part of the museum life by serving in many capacities.
