In or out-of-state tuition

As a state-supported institution, Oklahoma State University is funded in part by state tax revenue, and the state of Oklahoma provides subsidies that cover a higher portion of tuition for residents. Your tuition rate will depend on whether or not you are classified as an Oklahoma resident.

You will be notified in your admission materials whether you have been classified as an in-state or out-of-state student.

Who counts as an in-state student?

For the purpose of tuition, the policy has specific guidelines on who qualifies as an in-state student. Please check the Registrar's FAQ for in-state vs. out-of-state status information. Also see the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education policy for details on in-state qualifications, specifically Section 3.18.

What if I don't qualify as an in-state student?

Students who live outside of Oklahoma, who only live here while attending college, or who otherwise don't meet these resident qualifications are not eligible for the in-state tuition rate. But we do have great scholarships just for out-of-state students that you might be eligible to receive, to help offset the cost of out-of-state tuition.

Petitions for in-state status

If you feel that your initial classification is incorrect, you can complete the Petition for In-State Status before the final deadlines posted by the registrar's office. Please note that in-state reclassification (and associated in-state tuition) is not granted on a retroactive basis.
