Shaping the future

One veterinarian at a time
Oklahoma's veterinarians safeguard our livestock, food supply and pets — driving our economy from farm to table. They sustain rural and urban communities, support local businesses and fuel growth in agriculture, food processing, research and clinical care. At Oklahoma State University, we're shaping the next generation of veterinarians to protect public health and secure our state's future — fulfilling our land-grant mission.

Shaping rural vet med

Students prepare to aid areas in need
In rural America, a small but vital group of professionals keep the heartbeat of agriculture steady. They are rural veterinarians — often working long hours, in all weather, sometimes with little recognition — tending to the animals that provide food, fiber and livelihood to thousands of families.
At the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, cultivating the next generation of rural veterinarians is a top priority. This summer, the Oklahoma Legislative and Executive branches passed HB 3196 — the Dr. Lee Denney Act, providing financial support for students pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to practice in rural Oklahoma communities.
