Ready to make her mark.

Meet Kayla Dunn.

Her youth was spread across eight different cities – mostly college towns – as her family followed her father’s football coaching career around the country. But it was in Stillwater, Oklahoma where she finally found what she now calls “home.”

An OSU Honors College junior majoring in multimedia journalism and Spanish, Kayla aims to pursue a career in public diplomacy. She dreams big, acts bigger and is eager to make her mark on the world. In fact, she’s already begun.

Last summer, the Truman Scholarship finalist and editor-in-chief of the O’Colly pursued an internship with NBC News in Tucson, Arizona, to get an in-person perspective on immigration. While there, she made time to volunteer as an art therapy teacher and translator at Casa Alitas, a migrant shelter powered by volunteers like Kayla.

She served as a comfort to migrant families and their children, and the experience inspired her to continue to address immigration issues. Equipped with an OSU education and the driven compassion that exemplifies the Cowboy spirit, she is headed for a storied and impactful career in the public sphere.

That’s how we build Cowboys.
