Orientation Leader
Orientation leaders (OLs) welcome new students and families while serving as mentors and engaging participants in a positive orientation experience. Orientation leaders assist academic advising areas with enrollment, lead group discussions pertaining to university policies, present transitional information to students through small group presentations and facilitate activities to connect students and families to the university.
All orientation leaders participate in orientation program components, including evening programs, material preparation, daily program logistics and pre/post-orientation communication with students and families.
Leadership Team
Members of our leadership team participate in all programmatic components of orientation while also having specialized duties and potential supervisory responsibilities. This position is designed for those with campus leadership experience who are looking to further advance these skills. Experience in orientation programming is not required, but experience in campus leadership positions is preferred.
- Qualifications
Student staff must be enrolled in undergraduate courses or be a recent graduate of Oklahoma State University, have completed 12 hours of OSU coursework by the end of fall 2023, 24 hours by the end of spring 2024, and be in academic and disciplinary good standing with a 2.7 minimum GPA.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Effective communication skills, energy, enthusiasm, dedication and flexibility
- Ability to efficiently problem solve, manage conflict, and trouble shoot issues
- Positive people skills, willingness to learn, desire to work collaboratively and support peers
- On-campus leadership experiences, pride in OSU, and knowledge of campus resources
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Compensation and Benefits
Student staff receive the following benefits:
- $10/hour; Average 40 hours per week.

- Training and Work Hours
Spring Training
Self-paced training for all orientation leaders will occur during the latter half of the spring semester (exact date TBD). This training is mandatory and critical to our success.Work Week
Our on-campus, in-person training will immediately precede our orientation season to provide further information about programming, campus resources and leadership skills. This training will occur in May (exact date TBD).
Orientation Programs
Freshman and transfer orientation programs begin in May and continue through July.
