Real world health solutions
Who is transforming health outcomes in Oklahoma?
Orange is the Answer. Oklahoma State University is home to the state’s leading researchers and experts
in human, animal and environmental health. Our faculty and graduates lead the way
through research initiatives, industry defining discoveries and interdisciplinary
projects.
One Health research that preserves the planet
OSU's One Health research initiatives are interdisciplinary projects that explore the strong connection between human,
animal and environmental health. From studying how pollutants and other chemicals
impact plants, animals and humans to improving food safety, better understanding viruses
and safeguarding against parasites, One Health research is conducted in multiple areas
across the state, including the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Center for Health
Sciences, the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, OSU Extension
along with the National Center for Wellness & Recovery. OSU researchers strive to
learn how people, animals and the environment can safely rely on each other to preserve
global health and food security.
Educating Oklahoma's future physicians
From dwindling rural health care access to the opioid addiction crisis, Oklahomans
are facing significant health challenges. But they don’t have to face them alone.
Our recent ranking as No. 1 in the percentage of graduates practicing medicine in Health Professional Shortage
Areas from the U.S. News and World Report is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our
graduates. OSU is dedicated to improving mental and physical health outcomes across our state.
By providing the expertise of OSU Medicine physicians via our telehealth platforms
and through major investment into addiction research and treatment at the National Center for Wellness & Recovery,
OSU is delivering crucial health resources where they are most needed.
Our commitment to improving health extends to animals
At OSU, we are committed to providing health solutions for humans and animals. Our
College of Veterinary Medicine equips our state with expert veterinarians prepared
to make an impact. From small animal to large livestock health, our faculty, researchers
and experts are focused on improving overall animal wellness throughout the state.
Addressing Indigenous health through groundbreaking research
The OSU Center for Indigenous Health Research and Policy is developing a new center
to expand and grow health and nutrition initiatives in Native communities across the
country. Fueled by $10 million in federal funding, the Center for Indigenous Innovation
and Health Equity brings together OSU researchers and four native tribes and organizations
in Oklahoma and Alaska. Through this innovative collaboration uniting researchers,
Indigenous knowledge holders, and community leaders, these centers are working to
eliminate health disparities and advance health and wellness in Indigenous communities.
Strengthening health in rural and underserved communities
OSU-CHS has once again earned the ranking as a top 10 medical school whose graduates
practice in rural areas by U.S. News and World Report. The Health Resources and Services
Administration also recently awarded OSU Center for Health Sciences a $16 million
grant to enhance the school’s recruitment, retention and training programs focused
on rural, tribal, and urban and underserved populations in Oklahoma. The funding will
help empower medical students from these areas and meet the crucial need to increase
the number of primary care physicians practicing in these communities.
Optimizing human performance to transform health
With the Human Performance Nutrition and Research Institute, we are harnessing our
cutting-edge research expertise in human performance and nutrition science to create therapies and approaches that can help mitigate systematic health threats in
the broader Oklahoma population.
