Acquire fundamental business acumen

Basic business knowledge is in high demand for professionals in many fields including engineering, education, geology, fire safety, etc. A graduate certificate in business can prepare an individual to move from technical or line positions to supervision and management. The certificate can also help individuals better understand the basic aspects of business as they serve in roles such as business owning, teaching, government leading and more.

Overview

The Graduate Certificate in General Business is unique because it provides a general business foundation that can stand alone in helping individuals have a better grasp on the fundamentals of running a business and serve as a launching point for then earning an MBA. This certificate may also serve as an adjunct for attaining basic business knowledge in conjunction with other post-graduate degree or certificate paths. 

Coursework

  • MGMT 5113: Individual and Organizational Behavior
  • MKTG 5133: Marketing Management
  • ACCT 5183: MBA Financial Reporting
  • FIN 5013: MBA Business Finance

Elective (choose 1)

  • ECON 5113: Managerial Economics
  • MSIS 5303: Prescriptive Analytics
  • EEE 5253: Ideation, Creativity, and Innovation
  • HTM 5263: Applied Revenue Management in Hospitality and Tourism Management 

All coursework also counts toward the Spears Business MBA core curriculum pending separate/independent application and acceptance to that program.

Admissions requirements and deadlines

For fall admission, application must be complete by July 1 of the same year.

For spring admission, application must be complete by December 1 of the prior year.

Admission to the graduate certificate in General Business program requires satisfactory completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

All transcripts from bachelor degree studies as well as a CV/resume must be submitted by the deadline in order to be reviewed for admission. This program does not guarantee admission to the MBA. Applications that are incomplete at the deadline will not be reviewed. This application does not require recommendation letters, purpose statement or entrance exams such as the GMAT or GRE.
