You're on your way to becoming an official Cowboy.

The first step is completing the online application — which covers admission to the university and all university-sponsored scholarships.
Who counts as a freshman applicant?
If you will have graduated from high school by the time classes start and you have attempted less than seven hours of college credit post-graduation, you're in the right place.

Steps to Apply

Incoming freshmen can apply for admission and scholarships through the OSU application (opens July 1) or the Common Application (opens Aug. 1). Once you create your account, you can log back in at any time to complete or update your application. Before you start, review the steps in the application process.

  1. Review OSU’s admission requirements

Learn about high school prerequisites, our test score policy and the holistic review process we use to consider whether OSU is a good fit. Depending on your qualifications, you may be eligible for assured admission.

  2. Gather and submit your documents

To complete your application, you'll need to:

    • Have your high school send OSU your official high school transcript reflecting GPA and class rank, if available. More about submitting official documents
      • OSU uses the highest cumulative GPA (weighted or unweighted based on a 4.0 scale) indicated on a student’s official high school transcript for admission and scholarship purposes. GPAs not using a 4.0 scale will be converted to a 4.0 scale.
    • Submit your ACT or SAT test score. OSU's official codes are 3424 (ACT) and 6546 (SAT).
      • You have the option to apply to OSU without consideration of a test score. Those who select this option on the application will be considered for admission based on a full review of their high school transcript.
    • If applicable, submit AP/CLEP/IB/OSSM and/or Cambridge International AS & A Level Exams to receive college credit. More about credit by examination
    • Prepare your essay and leadership and involvement resume, which are recommended to maximize your scholarship opportunities.

  3. Apply for admission and scholarships

We accept either the OSU Application or the Common Application. Select whichever option is best for you, but submit only one application. Both are accessible using the admissions portal link below. This is also where you can check on the status of your application once you've applied.

  4. Pay the $50 application fee (or submit a fee waiver)

OSU accepts application fee waivers from ACT, SAT and NACAC. We also offer application fee waivers for students based on demonstrated need (example: those on free and reduced lunch). You can have your high school counselor forward you application fee waiver by email or mail. The application fee is nonrefundable.

  5. Apply for federal financial aid

When you apply to OSU, you are automatically considered for scholarships. Once available, OSU encourages all students to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using OSU's school code of 003170 to maximize scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
