What is Theatre?

The Department of Theatre offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Theatre, which equips students with a thorough knowledge of the dramatic arts and theatrical production, imparting vital skills relevant to real-world applications.

These degrees are designed to prepare students for careers in the film, live stage, and performance industry. A BA graduate brings a high level of skill, focus, and preparation to their respective discipline, be it acting or more the more specialized musical theatre genre. Highlights

  • The BA in Theatre is a comprehensive 48-hour degree with coursework in performance, technical theatre, directing, design, theatre history and dramatic literature.
  • Students may elect an emphasis in performance, technical theatre and design, or a combination of performance and design/tech.

Facilities

  • The Vivia Nail Locke Theater in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts seats 520 as a traditional proscenium configuration.
  • The Jerry L. Davis Studio Theater seats 75 and is home to the Studio Season productions of the department. These shows are often student directed and designed.
