What is communication sciences and disorders?

The communication sciences and disorders program gives you an in-depth study of speech, language, hearing processes and background orientation about disorders of communication in preparation for a graduate program.

Why communication sciences and disorders at OSU?

We offer you a comprehensive pre-professional background to pursue a career in speech-language pathology and/or audiology. Our curriculum prepares you to apply for graduate school as well as take on positions such as a speech-language pathology assistant and/or an audiology assistant.

Career Paths

This program prepares you to enter a graduate program in order to pursue certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Our graduates enjoy successful careers as Speech-Language Pathologists or Audiologists in a variety of fields:

  • Adult Day Care Facilities

  • Home Health Agencies

Highlights

  • Students of all grade levels have the opportunity to observe therapy sessions in our on-campus clinic.
  • As a part of our curriculum, seniors gain clinical experience by working with clients.
  • Students gain research experience in the Phon Farm, Motor Speech Lab, Sociophonetics Lab and the Language Learning Lab.
  • Opportunity to take courses in Deaf Education and learn about Deaf Culture.
