Curriculum
Four research focus areas have been identified by industry leaders in and around Tulsa, Okla., with Materials Science and Engineering as the overall umbrella. These focus areas include Materials for Energy Technologies, Bio-Materials for Medical Technologies, Advanced Materials for Aerospace and Materials for Electronics and Control Technologies. Tulsa-based industry leaders also identified "materials" as the "core" discipline.
Degree Requirements
- 60 total credits (beyond MS)
- 24 credits of courses beyond MS degree and remaining 6 course credits of electives. This must include 21 credits of required MSE core courses.
- Candidacy of PhD (after passing qualification examination)
- Dissertation committee
- Oral dissertation (defense) presentation and examination
- Doctoral dissertation approved
- Approved for graduation
Research and Faculty
Khaled A. Sallam, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering was named chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Mid Continent Section. Sallam designed and founded the undergraduate fluid dynamics lab at OSU-Tulsa that includes PIV system and high speed camera, jet engine test rig, subsonic wind tunnel, hydraulic channel and a pump test rig.
Sallam's current research areas are Automization of Aerated Jet in Supersonic Crossflow, Herbicides Spray Draft, Produced Water Desalination, and Jet Mixing for Combustion Applications.
Admissions
International student application deadlines are February 1 for the fall semester and September 1 for the spring semester.
US Citizen student application deadlines are April 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.
