Overview
This graduate certificate program provides supplemental training in mathematics to students in a wide range of programs including engineering, education, statistics and computer science. The critical thinking and problem-solving skills developed while studying graduate level mathematics are highly valued by employers in industry and government. This certificate program can also help students satisfy the Higher Learning Commission requirement that teachers of undergraduate classes have 18 hours of graduate course work in their given discipline.
Coursework
The program requires 12 hours of graduate credit math courses (courses numbered 5000 or above). No thesis hours (Math 5000 or Math 6000) can count towards this total. Students have the flexibility to craft a plan of study that best suits their career goals. The following are some suggested plans of study:

If a student elects to take more than 12 hours, then the additional classes may be from the list above. No more than three hours can be transferred from another university. Credits must be transferrable to OSU.
Admissions Requirements and Deadlines
Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree. Applicants should have proficiency in undergraduate mathematics beyond elementary integral calculus, and their transcripts should include proof-based math classes. In particular, undergraduate courses in linear algebra, abstract algebra and real analysis are strongly recommended.
