What is zoology?

Zoology is a life science that provides you with a thorough background in the biology of animals. This program equips you with the knowledge needed for any health-care related career.

Why zoology at OSU?

At OSU, we believe in the value of undergraduate research. With a Zoology major, you learn about animal diversity and select among upper-division courses on specific animal groups and/or related topics. You will also work on an independent research project in a faculty mentor’s lab or complete a relevant internship.

Zoology graduates are prepared to enter a variety of career fields, including the public and private sector, graduate school, or professional programs, such as medical school or veterinary school. Our graduates enjoy successful careers in a variety of fields:

  • Zoology majors at OSU have the chance to participate in undergraduate research, such as Animal Behavior, Ecosystem Studies, Evolutionary Ecology, Toxicology, Animal Physiology, and the collection and preservation of vertebrates

  • Students can earn secondary education certification along with their degree through OSUTeach

  • Among the resources available to Zoology students are career advising, guest speakers and presentations

  • Courses to expect for this major include Animal Biology, General Ecology, Vertebrate Morphology, Invertebrate Zoology, General Genetics, and Evolution. You will also choose among specialized, upper-division courses
