The Oklahoma State Scholars Society is a generous and highly competitive scholarship and academic development program that recognizes and rewards Oklahoma’s highest achieving students.

These students ensure OSU continues to be America’s Brightest Orange!

Unlike other programs that focus solely on test scores, the OSSS is our commitment to nurture and grow talented Oklahoma students who demonstrate academic performance, a proven record of accomplishments and a combination of emotional maturity and native intelligence.

How it works

Up to 50 students are selected as semifinalists based upon scoring of their leadership résumé and essays. Semifinalists are invited to a phone interview with staff representing the Honors College, Office of Scholar Development and Undergraduate Research, Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Twenty finalists are invited to in-person interviews with a faculty committee. The process takes both holistic and academic factors into consideration in addition to interview performance.
Up to five students are then selected — based on work ethic, maturity and potential — to join the Oklahoma State Scholars Society as fellows, receiving up to $74,500 in scholarship support, including a one-time study-abroad stipend.
The remaining finalists students will be recognized as Oklahoma State Scholars Society members and will receive $20,000 in academic support.

OSSS criteria

Strong Oklahoma State Scholars Society candidates have met these criteria in the past to complete the first selection round:
  • Minimum 3.8 high school unweighted GPA and 27 ACT or equivalent.
  • Oklahoma resident admits prior to February 1 Priority Scholarship Deadline.
  • Admitted to Oklahoma State University and the Honors College.
  • Completed Scholarship Application — application essays, leadership résumé and high school transcript.
Students who are invited to join the Oklahoma State Scholars Society represent the highest level of academic and social accomplishments and are expected to continue their performance throughout their education as a result of this financial aid and academic support.
